Friday Mittens

It  is a rare and over-cast day here in Northern California.  I like a nice break from the intense sun. Change is good!  I am off and resting up today and it feels good. I have the normal chores and pressures but nothing really pressing on me.  So by 9 am I was already knitting away on my mittens.  Last weekend I finished the body of the mitten and now I am on my thumb.  It should go by pretty fast and I am almost done. 

I am posting a photo now as I probably won't post one later today when that thumb is finished.  Better to show what I have now then nothing at all. 

 

I have been wanting to make Otto the Polar Bear by Ysolda.  I will be posting links soon.  I am going get my materials and snug up on the sofa after Dexter goes down for a nap and  knit a bit on my Polar Bear.  I would be happy to have the head of a bear done by this afternoon. Time will tell.

Pretty, Blue, Fingerless Mittens

• size 5 dpns
• Pattern:  Ravelry -  Cabled Fingerless Gloves by Kimberly Gintar.

I used a different cable pattern for them.  I must say I really like the soft Rowan wool.  Blocking really does the trick to make them look great.  I am pretty sure I need a pair for me.  How about pink?

I finished the left glove at knitting night.  I was a little cocky and just counted the cables.  I mean that should work.  I guess I must have had something "off" not to mention I was knitting the left glove tighter. Anyway.. right then and there I had to rip out the ribbing, pick up and knit another cable repeat to make them match up. It was well worth it.  (I don't mind a little bit of frogging... are you proud of me Deedee?) By the way she has a great post up right now. She has been a busy knitter and there is all kinds of really nice projects on her page.  Check out her Olive Cosima sweater.  I am just jealous... I need on of those asap!

I am a little sentimental about this yarn.  When I see FO's in it, I sort of think back to my Cornwall frogging mistake.  I think Cornwall would have been dreamy in this oceany blue color.  Oh well.. progress.. and moving forward....  I have Norway and the Jess Gansey to make me happy right now.    And Oh.. they really are making me happy.

Have a great weekend.  I am home today coughing, sniffling keeping my germs from the Office.  Hate wasting good days on sick days. But hey what is one to do!   I did pull out my pink Waving Lace socks and put them on the warm my chilled toes and I am feeling a bit special. That is what homemade socks do, you know? They make you feel special. 

Jack is in the House!

Happy Sunday....

I had a fun time today (Saturday) knitting up Jack.  My grandson really likes Jack so I thought I'd give it a shot.  I got the pattern on Ravelry.  After work I buzzed over to  my LYS and got some Encore Worsted yarn for this little project.  I have plenty left over for other projects.  I have a little penguin project that I have been wanting to make.  Also I picked up some bamboo wool yarn for something else that I will post about later in the week. But I will say... it is another toy.

Back to Jack.  He was a quick knit. Under two hours. I enjoyed making him. I don't particularly like making all that I-cord for the arms and legs but it wasn't too bad. I used size seven dpns, however Jack is knit flat and seamed up.  I didn't think I would like that fact but it does make for a nice shaped head for Jack.  

My grandson loves Jack.  Heck we all love Jack.  I think I'll make another one!  I would like to put some black and white stripes on Jack's Jacket.. We will see what I come up with.

Not in the mood for a dip..

Happy Thursday....

I sure wasn't in the mood for a trip to the frog pond today.  After all it is fall and all and the mornings are cool even if they still are sunny.

I had a few moments this fine day to try out a fingerless mitten pattern (freebie Ravelry) and you know I cast on and got going and this cable just wasn't working for me.  Maybe I was doing it wrong?   I was also using this time and pattern to finally just commit to memory and learn how to cable without a cable needle. 

Well I didn't like the cable.  I am not sure why. But I think it was operator error. I think my rights were going left and the lefts were going right and it was off set in my mind. It was a cable over four stitches one a ten stitch panel.

I wish I had taken a photo of it.   ANYWAY... I wanted a crisp cable and then I thought of some of the cables that are on a gansey sweater that I adore and I thought, "why not practice."   I like the cables that just seem like tight little twists all the way up.

But I still didn't want to rip out my work.. not in the mood for a moring dip.. So I ripped out six stitches worth of cable and I went down 12 rows. I don't usually do this, so it was a bit of an experiment for me.   Voila' it did work.  I do see some laddery looseness that I haven't figured out if I can live with yet, but I think I will just let it be for now.  

I don't think my cable is consisent and crisp...But I am hanging loose and letting it just "be" for now.

I don’t have any new knitting photos. (sigh)  So I will stick you with a picture of Dexter on my bed with a ball (that is not allowed on the bed).  Does he look like he knows it or what?

 I think what I hate most about Mondays is that I am busy and tired and there is usually no knitting.  I think I need to make a strict rule that I knit for at least 30 minutes on my lunch break on Mondays. Maybe that will help the “lack of knitting” bad mood that happens.

I did knit a bit last night (Tuesday)  on my Jess Gansey, but not enough to warrant a photo shoot.  I have to say that I have completed nine rows (rounds) of the front and back and it is just starting to pop.  I continue to love the Frangipani wool worked on size two needles.  It is very stretchy.   I actually had cravings at work yesterday to get home and spend time with this Gansey. I was not disappointed in the least.

The wonderful fall weather has me crazy for knitting.  Unfortunately it has me crazy for eating too.  I have to back up and quit thinking of all those wonderful comfort foods of winter, or at least think of lower fat and calorie options.  This does NOT include fresh backed cinnamon rolls or hot apple pie. 

It is Wednesday so that mean KNIT NIGHT and for me that is just a good day all around!   I hope the group is feeling well and able to make it.  We are a lively bunch and I love it.  This time of year I love hearing of all the fall projects and fall activities.
