Okay here I am doing a quickie edit at work! Thus began my swatching effort last night for Eunny Jang's Deep V Argyle Vest. The colors are Hollyberry and Nutmeg. (Knit Picks Merino Style) The nutmeg is more beige than it appears in the photos. ( Over flashed photo taken at 11:30 pm.) The colors are a little more muted than they appear.
Details:
The gauge for this zero ease garment is supposed to be 22 stitches and 30 rows / 4 inches.
At first without steam ironing I was at 24 st @ 3.5 inches and for the rows I was at 30 rows at about 4.5 inches. I was grumpy and bummed. After ironing I am at about 21.5 for 4 inches and a perfect 30 rows for 4 inches. AND there is plenty of room to block /stretch sideways without distorting the pattern. So I have green light for the project.
I hated wasting the yarn to cut it like this but I wasn't in the mood to make a hat or do a full circle in the round. I used the method of Fair Isle Swatching to obtain gauge in the round in the Alice Starmore Book Fisherman's Sweaters. You basically cut the yarn after every row and start at the beginning again. I used 24 stitches for this swatch and 30 rows. I also didn't cut the yarn very close. I did this one time for a swatch like this and it kept unraveling.
I now confess that I am worried about having enough of the Hollyberry yarn. So to feel less wasteful, I used my swatch as a coaster for my wine last night. :) It felt like an accomplishment.
My latest knitting obstacle is that my size four circulars had Norway on them. I have another paid.. ADDI's at that but they are only 20 inches or so.
Happy Day.. I actually think this is post number 10. I Looked back and there are two number three posts... :) Oh well... I am on track with 30 days of summer knitting and blogging.
Happy Weekend.
Toni
