Hello! I have been busy... but my blog has been a ghost town. Here is a photo journal with my fiber activities for the last six plus weeks.
A Sweater for Abigail, with a matching hat. The fiber is handspun from a my friend Lburrel, in Canada.
Here is a close up of the sweet little yoke.
The true color lies somewhere between these two photos. Maybe closer to the second one.
Above is a condensed version. We have two pair of little socks and a good start on holiday socks for my family.
Here is this cute little hat for Abigail that I made with some of my own handspun.
A little family of dolls headed to ICROSS in Canada. I actually have made a sixth to add to the shipment since I took that photo.
I have been washing wool, raw fleece. It is rather fun, now that I am getting the hang of it and finding the way that I want to spin, for the kind of wool that I want to knit with.
So White and fluffy after washing.
Wool locks drying in the sun. (I was told this is CVM)
Then I used an Ashford Flick Carder and combed the ends of the locks. I spun a thin single and plyed it chain ply, aka navajo ply. And look at those sweet little wool shoes for Abigail. Be still my heart. I need pearl buttons, those are only pins for the photo.
Well... remember back when... I said I had been spinning. Oh boy did I mean it.. and then Tour de Fleece came along and gave me great motivation. So here come the fiber shots.
This is four ounces FatCatFiber, 270 yards Chain Plyed.
The coloway: Blushing, the Fiber: Merino
This is four ounces FatCatFiber 2 ply, 398 yards.
The Colorway: Azurite, the fiber: Faulkland.
I am trying to remember to keep a little drop spindle action going on. I like using the drop spindle, but I love the volume from my LadyBug. I love my spinning wheel.
I tried my hand at dying with food coloring. Fun times.
I learned to card and make Rollags.
That was fun too. I and I can spin long draw now. But not very well in my opinion, but I can see that I can do it if I want to and that practice will make "perfect."
More fiber coming up.
This is 4ounces of FatCatFiber. 404 yards, 2 ply.
The colorway: winterscape, the Fiber: is BFL. (underplyed!!)
Here is some anonymous fiber that I have had for about 8 years. I believe it to be silk. It was fun to spin and ply. Oh so soft.
This is what a batt of Cupcake fiber looks like after it is opened up. I have spun one of them so far. It is for three ply sock yarn. Yummy.
The color is more like the top photo.
Here is a bobbin of Potluck Roving. I spun three ply (chain). It turned out nice, but I have learned quite a bit since.
Still it is rather pretty chain plyed.
Here is another chain ply attempt with Louet Northern Lights, the colorway is Grape Jelly. It is rather nice. I don't remember the yardage.
So you see, I have been busy, and I have other knitting on the needles. I have promised myself to go back to posting as I knit because I can seem to keep up this way and I do miss my blog.
Best trip this summer was a trip to the San Franscisco Zoo with one of my favorite people, my Grandson.
I had a stay at home summer well, pretty much this whole year...no travel options this year. Thank goodness for books, knitting, spinning and family and for the simple life.
I have two special events coming up for Fall, a baby shower for Abigail, and I get to meet Miss Abby Rose in November. A new baby girl in time for the holidays.
Have a great End of the Month. Happy Days and thanks for dropping by!
